Boğaziçi University Ranked in the Top Research Category

Boğaziçi University was placed in the “A1” level, the highest category designated by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), which includes the top three higher education institutions among the 20 public research universities identified nationwide. Rector of Boğaziçi University, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Naci İnci, received the Research University Certificate at the Research-Oriented Mission Differentiation Program, held in Ankara on December 13, from Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank and President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar.

Boğaziçi University Ranked in the Top Research Category

Rector of Boğaziçi University, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Naci İnci, received the Research University Certificate awarded to Boğaziçi University at the Research Universities Meeting organized by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), from Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank and President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar. At the meeting, where 20 public universities and 3 foundation (private, non-profit) higher education institutions were designated as “Research Universities,” Boğaziçi University was represented in the “A1” category, the highest tier comprising the top three universities. In addition, according to the new decisions announced by YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar during the meeting, foundation universities will now also be eligible to participate in the “Research-Oriented Specialization Program.”

“SPECIAL SUPPORT WILL BE PROVIDED TO RESEARCH UNIVERSITIES”

Sharing the recent developments at the meeting held in Ankara, YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar announced that 20 public universities and 3 foundation universities are currently included in the Research-Oriented Mission Differentiation Program. Stating that discussions are ongoing regarding the provision of special support programs aimed at enhancing universities’ capacities in the upcoming period, Özvar said:

“Within the framework of our country’s priority objectives—namely producing high-quality knowledge, encouraging interdisciplinary work and collaborations, increasing the number of PhD researchers, strengthening international cooperation, and enhancing the international visibility of our universities—the program has accepted 11 research universities and 5 candidate research universities following evaluations. Universities that receive the research or candidate research university designation have been provided with various forms of support starting from the year they are included in the program. The main forms of support include academic staff positions allocated by YÖK, additional quotas through the Ministry of National Education’s overseas graduate scholarship program, and institutional funding shares determined by TÜBİTAK based on universities’ research performance. Furthermore, additional increases are provided by the Presidency of Strategy and Budget to research universities ranked in the top five according to their performance.”
